According to the New Oxford style manual (OUP, 2016), p.141, the "traditional style" for book titles is to capitalize all of the principal words. However, "a more modern practice – in line with a general tendency to eliminate redundant capitalization – is to capitalize the first word of a title and then to apply the capitalization of normal prose". This is the approach used on this site. As the manual goes on to say, "this style of minimal capitalization ... has long been standard in bibliography".
