Our grant funding for research

Introduction

One of the Society's aims and objectives is to "undertake and promote research in connection with Voysey’s work and related matters, and promote the dissemination of the results". We also aim to "inform and educate the public about Voysey's work so as to increase its appreciation and understanding of the design philosophies and qualities involved". Accordingly, we offer grants to both individuals and organisations for projects meeting the criteria set out below.

Grants to individuals

The Society is working with the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain (the SAHGB) to offer a grant of up to £1,000 to fund a research project on the architecture and context of C.F.A. Voysey. We welcome applications that explore the wider context of the Arts & Crafts movement in the British Isles and beyond, although preference will be given to applications that establish a clear link with Voysey. The same terms and conditions apply as for the SAHGB’s standard research grant calls.

Grants to organisations

The Society also offers grants to organisations, for which the terms and conditions are as follows.

  1. This scheme is open to archives, museums and galleries which are owned and managed by recognized public bodies, including charities, and are open to the public.
  2. Grants will be awarded for projects meeting one or more of the following criteria:
    • a contribution towards the acquisition by the bidding organisation of an artefact designed by C.F.A. Voysey.
    • a contribution towards the professional restoration of an artefact designed by C.F.A. Voysey which is already wholly owned by the bidding organisation.
    • a contribution towards the design and production of a publication or an information panel explaining some aspect of the life and work of C.F.A. Voysey which relates to the collection owned by the bidding organisation.
  3. Grants will not be awarded to cover routine running costs.
  4. Grants may be made up to a maximum value of £1,000. There is no obligation on the Society to make an award in any given year.
  5. It is a condition of grant that the Society’s contribution is permanently recorded by the bidding organisation in a form acceptable to the Society.
  6. All grants are made and payable in sterling. Grants should be claimed within two years of being awarded, and will lapse without notice unless an extension is requested and granted.
  7. Applications should be addressed to the Secretary, to include:
    • background information about the organisation which is bidding,
    • a full description of the proposed project, including costs, and how it will increase awareness of the work of C.F.A. Voysey, and
    • an indication of the amount of grant being sought, and what other funding is available, if any.
  8. The Society’s decision on any grant application is final and it is not obliged to provide an explanation.
