Summer event and AGM, 2025

Applications are now invited for our summer event and Annual General Meeting on Saturday 4th October 2025.

Introduction

This year's summer event and Annual General Meeting will be held in the headquarters building of the Art Workers' Guild.

The Guild was founded in April 1884 by a group of young architects and designers, many of whom were prominent figures of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Voysey was elected as a member on 5th December of that year. He was a member of the committee responsible for arranging the first exhibition of the Guild in 1895. In 1902 he joined a Guild group visiting the Netherlands, his first overseas trip, and made a second visit with the Guild in 1906. In 1924 he was elected Master. His portrait by George Vernon Meredith Frampton RA (1894-1984), along with those of other Masters, hangs in the Hall.

Voysey's portrait is in the centre of this view, immediately to the right of the Master's chair.

The venue

The Guild's building is listed Grade II*. It is a former terraced house of about 1713, which was the home of Martin Folkes, President of the Royal Society and of the Society of Antiquaries, until 1763. It was refronted in the later 18th century, with alterations and additions (including the Hall) by Francis W. Troup for the Guild in 1914. Our annual lecture in November this year will be about Troup.
